“Wind Turbines Built at Sea - Exhibition of Taiwan’s First VR Interactive News” was held at National Formosa University in Yunlin for one week. To share more information on offshore wind power with Yunlin locals, National Formosa University, The Graduate Institute of Journalism of National Taiwan University, and Science Media Center Taiwan have cooperated to let viewers experience a tour of an offshore wind farm with VR interaction.

During the 5-day brilliant exhibition, Deputy Director General of German Institute Taipei, officials of Yunlin County Government, professors of National Formosa University, Taiwan International Windpower Training Corporation (TIWTC), ENERCON and other offshore wind power related enterprises were invited to the exhibition and attended the press conference, and some also took part in the activities. For example, TIWTC hosted lectures on international certificates of offshore wind power safety training (such as GWO certificates) and organized popular science activities aimed at students from all elementary schools in Yunlin, significantly concretizing Yunlin locals’ understanding of offshore wind power farms.

In a VR activity, a visitor can not only go out to sea along with a captain but also touch white dolphins (Sousa chinensis) and follow them to get away from the noise arising from the piling of wind turbines, so that the visitor is able to know the ecological disturbance caused by the development of offshore wind farms and learn the noise mitigation measures for the conservation of white dolphins.
