As part of our Localization Strategy for Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, we are fully committed to support the development of the local industry and  to involve local companies into the project´s supply chain, wherever possible.

Heavily laden transport ships are repeatedly arriving at the ports of Mailiao and Anping in Taiwan at present. Their cargo: monopiles and so-called transition pieces manufactured in Europe and destined for the construction of wpd’s Yunlin offshore wind farm. But not all the components of the foundation structures for the total of 80 turbines in the project are produced in Europe. 50% are made locally in Taiwan.

Already on March 16th, a transport vessel with five nacelles of this type (Siemens Gamesa 8.0 167 DD) will be on its way to Aalborg to load an additional 15 rotor blades.

The Yunlin offshore wind project is developed by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of wpd offshore GmbH. The project is located in the Taiwan Strait, between 8 and 17 kilometers off the west coast of Taiwan, at water depths from 7 up to 35 meters. The 82km² project area (6% of Yunlin sea area) will comprise 80 wind turbine generators (WTG) with total capacity of 640 MW rated power, and the generated electricity will be fed into the grid via two onshore substations at Taixi and Sihu Townships respectively in Yunlin County.

The first WTG commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of 2020 and project completion is scheduled for December 2021.
